About Us

The litter committee is a subcommittee of the conservation commission. It was established to deal with litter control and prevention issues in relation to our charge in the Town Charter to protect “the rural integrity and scenic character” of Tiverton.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

1. To establish related ordinances as needed for the Town Code

        • Litter Ordinance passed by the Council in 2000

        • Litter-related sections in the more recently revised Solid Waste Management Ordinance

2. To work with the Tiverton police re: enforcement of the above.

3.  To work with the Tiverton DPW and Town government with the eventual goal of making litter monitoring and cleanup an official component of DPW’s regular work.

ACTIVITIES:

Litter Committee / Conservation members and participants in the ADOPT-AN-AREA-IN-TIVERTON project monitor and pick up litter throughout the year in selected / designated area throughout the town.

The Commission and the Committee actively support the annual April Cleanup Week, sponsored by the Tiverton Garden Club, and Week event – cleanup and public education – includes a poster contest in Tiverton’s elementary schools, an important component in the education category, influencing not only the participating children but their families, as well.
